First -hand. Bioshock Infinite

Hot New York evening. The sun sprisens no weaker than in Moscow, but before the main entrance of the Plaza Hotel, a small crowd gathered right across the road from the central park. Inside, Senator Charles Rengl celebrates his birthday, and his supporters and opponents shouting out each other (Charles recently convicted in fraud with taxes, and now he is threatened with court and resignation). The third floor of the hotel was removed for the celebrations, and in the conference hall the floor below is another, no less important event. Ken Levin and his comrades finally present a new game. The first since the times of Bioshock.

Take off into the air

The fact that Irrational Games is working on a new project was known to everyone. But only recently it became known that the studio is finally ready to disrupt the cover of secrets from the fresh game and present it to the public. The press event was preparing in the strictest secret: even the journalists invited to the presentation until the very last moment did not know what exactly awaited them in New York, and Irrational fans almost broke their brains, trying to guess what surprise the developers are preparing: Freedom Force 2 or after all (what the hell is not joking!) System Shock 3? Therefore, when Ken himself finally appeared on the stage, and after a short greeting he said the cherished: “And now our new game!" – in the hall instantly reigned dead silence. And in just a minute, the guests burst into applause. No wonder: as it turned out, while 2k Marin was collected by Bioshock 2, Ken’s wards were actively thinking about the future of his main franchise. And came up with Bioshock Infinite.

So, the underwater city will leave forever. The scene of the new game is the flying metropolis Columbia. The city soaring in the air (they do not give the houses to fall the balloon replacing the foundation) was conceived as a demonstration of the correctness and prospects of the American lifestyle. Colombia flew around the light, convincing the inhabitants of distant countries with one appearance that jokes are bad with America. But the creators of Colombia from the admiring public conceived something. According to Ken, this is not just a city, but in fact a new "death star". What exactly does he mean, it is not yet clear, but we know for sure that at some point Columbia was involved in a terrible international incident (we are ready to put on the fact that it was not without violence), and the city itself disappeared behind the clouds, As it seemed – forever. For many years, nothing was known about him, while one day to Boker Devitt, the former detective of the Pinkerton Agency and the main hero of the game, a mysterious visitor did not appear.

At first glance, his case was quite ordinary: to find a girl named Elizabeth. But even the views of the Pinkertonian, the eyes climbed on his forehead, when it turned out that they were holding the lady not somewhere, but in the legendary Columbia (moreover, the customer knows how to get there).

Over the years, much has changed in the air city, and not for the better. The streets are covered with posters that appeal to patriotism and curse "foreigners and anarchists". The new rulers of Colombia are clearly committed to the theory of “strong arm” and profess right views.

Opponents in Bioshock Infinite are not much reminiscent. Outwardly, these are ordinary people (at least most of them). Even their behavior in many situations seems quite normal: at some point, the main character enters a bar full of locals, and instead of a surge of aggression, stumbles upon indifferent views (“And this is still who has come up with?"). Ken explains that many characters in the game will initially be neutral in relation to the bouquer.

But already at the very beginning of the presentation, it becomes clear that something is still wrong with Colombia citizens. Because, you see, not a single normal person will sweep the porch when his house is embraced by a fire behind him (behind this occupation we find a certain Colombian). And certainly, in a normal person, from rage, they do not begin to glow with a red flame of the eye, and the air around him does not become viscous, as if a slightly different light of light.

In general, the reality in Bioshock Infinite seems no more absolute and unchanged than the cloud of fog. Now and then we, out of the corner of our eyes, notice how the air changes its optical properties for a couple of seconds (why? We would like to know!) And, it seems, on the go changes the world around us. Either Irrational decided to follow the path of the creators of Assassin’s Creed, and in fact, everything happens with the protagonist in the head, or a certain, so far unknown, but very powerful force is opposed to us.

In any case, to rescue Elizabeth from imprisonment, you will need something more than accuracy and ingenuity. By the time of the beginning of the demo, the hero had already learned telekinesis, and in the second or third minute, famously sipping the mysterious sly from the bottle taken from the enemy, he learned to call for the help of a flock of raven, attacking all enemies in close proximity. But this is nothing compared to Elizabeth's abilities. It turns out, a serious master of secret arts: right before our eyes, she lifts metal objects scattered across the ground, warm up to an incredible temperature and fluids into one giant fiery lump, which we then throw in the enemies hidden in shelter. A little earlier, in another scene, the girl calls the clouds with a rain, which we turn into a thunderstorm with one blow of manual lightning (by the way, the real weapon of mass destruction). As Ken says, the hero will have to act together with Elizabeth, competently using his own and her abilities to combat enemies.

Among which, https://sister-site.org/gxmble/ in addition to “seemingly normal”, albeit aggressive entities, real monsters also come across. Remember the first meeting with the big dad? They did not forget what kind of horror he caught up on you? So, in sunny Colombia there are creatures and more terrible. For example, we had a chance to see a huge mechanical gorilla with a mustachioed man in which the head remained-a heart beating in a transparent container on his chest, pumping some fluids unknown to modern science. And a little later, at the very end of the demonstration, some flying creature-also clearly of artificial origin spoke to us.

Start over

It seems that in the sense of gameplay Infinite will mainly copy the first two games. This is also a first -person shooter with special capabilities (partially – new, partially recycled old), and its events also unfold in a lost city, whose inhabitants are full of skeletons in the cabinets, carefully protected from prying eyes.

But Irrational did what, perhaps, their colleagues from 2k Marin had to do a few years ago: they took a trusted concept and composed a completely new story in the new world with new heroes. One of the main problems of Bioshock 2 was that there were practically no worthwhile secrets left for us. If in the original player almost at every angle was waiting for a surprise, then the sequel resembled a trip to a good, but slightly boring attraction.

Bioshock Infinite is deprived of these shortcomings. Having emerged from the marine abyss and rushing into heaven, the game promises us the same joy of the discoverer that the first part gave. A change of visual style (you should have seen how bright the sun is in Columbia!) and topics (instead of objectivism – isolationism) will help to perceive the game as a completely new product, not burdened with a long biography.

Finally, Ken promises that in the new game there will be everything: more weapons, more special abilities, more solutions to problems. He claims that Bioshock Infinite will not be the only true image of action, and for each task you can choose the key yourself.
